A large rounded knob of reniform Hematite also referred to as kidney ore. The color is black with a reddish over coating in places. There is a druze of reddish Calcite crystals on one side which is only partially visible in the last three pictures. The surface of the specimen has a medium luster. A very good example from the Michigan iron mines.
The specimen is in fairly good condition with the exception of a section on one side where the top few layers are missing.
