Mineral Specimen #3885 Covellite and Chalcopyrite
Summitville, Rio Grande Co., Colorado
6.4 x 7 x 5.8 cm
Sold
A mass of generally parallel orientated long, thin, bladed crystals of Covellite crystals. The Covellite crystals are iridescent blue and purple in color. Between many of the Covellite crystals is a layer of golden colored Chalcopyrite. In places, there is a coating of white, crusty material which is stained light green in places. This white material does not react to acid and is likely Feldspar.
The specimen is in fairly good condition however, some of the Covellite crystal are incomplete and the white material distracts from the apearance.
