There are three generations of Calcite which make up this specimen. At the core, the Calcite is stalactite and exhibits concentric growth patterns similar to tree rings (see next to last photo). Overlaying this are crystals, which near the base, have a rhombahedral habit. Further up the specimen, these crystals take on a more elongated habit. These crystals differ in color from one side of the specimen to the other. When viewed from one side of the specimen, the color is off-white with a slight yellow tint and from the other side, the color is a peach/orange color. Many of the crystals exhibit both colors but always orientated with the same colors facing the same direction. On the peach colored side of the specimen, these crystals are covered with another generation of small crystals which have a rhomboidal habit but have grown in spherical aggregates and unusual, curved and winding groupings. There are also some smaller, dark brown colored, rhombahedral crystals near the base of the specimen on this side of the specimen. The Calcite across the specimen exhibits a high, glossy luster. There are also a few, small spherical aggregates of micro Mimetite crystals near the base on the lighter colored side of the specimen. Please note: the specimen rests at an angle and would be best exhibited mounted on a stand.
Condition: Very Good
Flaws: Nothing Appreciable
