Mineral Specimen #4590 Graphite Crystals in Blue Calcite
Lake Bonaparte, Diana Twp., Lewis Co., New York
9.7 x 5.1 x 4.2 cm
Sold
Graphite crystals in a massive Calcite matrix. I believe the color of the Calcite is due to micro inclusions of Graphite - the blue does not fade in sunlight like the blue Calcite from Chihuahua, Mexico. Please note: this location is not listed on mindat. Hwever, the specimen was originally purchased at the show in Syracuse, New York (and later sold to Kirk Valuet and then repurchased along with his collection). This material was available for several years from both club members and one dealer who had collected it themselves in the past (the location is now closed).
Condition: Good
Flaws: The specimen has been acid etched to reveal the Graphite crystals (actually, I was the one who did this many years ago). Most of the Graphite crystals are incomplete.
