Four layers/generations of iron oxides compose this specimen. Although this specimen was originally labeled as Goethite, a simple scotch test reveals only the yellow/orange colored layer is actually Goethite with the dark brown to black colored layers and the red material are Hematite. The surface of the top layer of Hematite and the Goethite have a reniform habit.
