Mineral Specimen #6295 Augite in Pegmatoidal Basalt
Greenstone cliff above Phoenix, Keweenaw Co., Michigan
13.5 x 8.7 x 7.6 cm
$75 / Reserved
Dark green sprays of Augite are frozen in a pegmatoidal basalt matrix composed largely of Feldspar. There is mention of crystals of up to 5 cm at the location in the Mineralogy of Michigan by Heinrich. It is quite likely this is the specimen referred to since the crystals are that size and Heinrich was, for many years, the curator of the University of Michigan collection.
Condition: Composed of massive material.
Flaws: Essentially massive material.
